The New York Red Bulls Pre-Academy Teams continued their successful season over the winter months as they were crowned New Jersey Youth Soccer Futsal State Cup Champions.
Hosted at Sportika Sports in Manalapan, NJ the event saw teams from across the region come together to compete in a combined U11 / U12 bracket. Playing up with the older 2007’s would certainly provide a challenge for the Red Bull 2008’s, but one that they would prove that they were more than a match for.
Taking all three Regional Pre-Academy Teams to the event, each squad divided into two smaller rosters for the 5v5 tournament, providing ample playing time for every player in the fast-paced indoor environment.
After a morning of quick-fire games in the group stages three Red Bulls teams secured places in the semi-finals with Philadelphia based team Pro Skill Soccer rounding out the final four. In a hard-fought game between the Red Bulls NJ North and NJ South teams the North roster edged a seven-goal thriller in a game of great quality. In the other semi-final the other half of the NJ North roster overcame Pro Skill 6-3 after a back and forth affair.
The semi-final results meant that the two Red Bulls NJ North teams would meet each other in the final. A highly entertaining game ensued with the young Red Bulls players showcasing their technical ability and creativity in abundance. After a tight first half, the Red squad pulled away from the White squad to claim the crown of New Jersey Youth Soccer Futsal State Cup Winners.
“Today has been a wonderful development opportunity for our young players” stated Pre-academy Manager Gareth Tyack, going on to add “The fast-paced environment, lots of touches, lots of decisions, and the challenge of playing against older players has been great for our players. As always, it was a pleasure to sit back and watch them figure things out for themselves and play some great soccer in the process."
