Red Bulls U17’s held on to a 1-0 victory against Baltimore Armour on a surprisingly hot September afternoon.
But it was not only the temperature that was high, as tempers began to boil over towards the end of the match, when the Baltimore keeper was sent off in the 90th minute of play.
The game started as a cagey affair, both teams feeling out their opposition. Though there were not tons of chances created in the first half, New York had the lion’s share of possession. The two sides were tested mentally and physically as the sun beat down on the turf at The Peddie School, headed into the half tied 0-0.
A breakthrough finally came when Balthazar Saunders played an excellent ball into Scott Taylor, finishing to the bottom corner in front of his own team’s bench.
Lineup: Alex Bobocea, Chris Tiao (Bryce Lebel 45’), Hamza Shehata, John Tolkin, Connor Mauer, Kejiel Watt (Diogo Rebelo 45’), Balthazar Saunders, Dylan Sullivan, Amir Daley (Matthew Acosta 80’), Peter Stroud, Scott Taylor (Sean Ryan 80’)
