The Regional Development School Pre-Academy Teams collected their first piece of silverware for the season this past weekend as they were crowned New Jersey Youth Soccer State Cup Champions.
The Red Bulls were well represented in the final four of the U11 age group with both the NJ North and NY-based 2008 Regional Teams reaching the semifinals, where they would be drawn to play against one another.
With the final four weekend being hosted in Tinton Falls, New Jersey, both teams made the trip down to south Jersey for what would prove to be an entertaining game, as well as a great showcase of the strength of the RDS Pre-Academy pool. After a back-and-forth encounter in the semifinals, the NY team edged out their NJ counterparts with a 4-3 victory. Junior Palacios scored the winning goal in the final moments after earlier strikes from Antoni Kulak, Eric Palei and Stefano Linardos.
That victory set up a final the following day versus the Wyckoff Torpedoes – a team with pedigree, having previously conquered the third RDS Pre-Academy team (NJ South) in the quarterfinals.
After falling behind in the first half, the Red Bulls youngsters put on a dominant display in the second half of the game and got the goals that their performance merited. Sebi Lowe found the net with a fantastic curling effort to level the score before Stefano Linardos scored the game-winning goal just moments later.
The final whistle was greeted with jubilant scenes shortly afterwards as the young Red Bulls players celebrated a well-deserved victory and the new title of New Jersey State Champions.
