The Long Island Regional Development School (RDS) hosted and sponsored by Long Island Junior Soccer League, has provided fully funded, high-end training to Long Island’s most talented soccer players for the past five years.
Established in the fall of 2010, the Long Island RDS has consistently attracted LIJSL’s elite, and provided a unique environment that allows the top players from around the area to receive additional technical instruction, thus supplementing their existing team training without conflicting with their regular team commitments.
Open to boys and girls ages 7 to 12, the program caters to players at a crucial time of their technical, tactical, and physical development. Over 500 players have benefitted from this fully funded program, by partaking in three seasons of training each year, throughout the fall, winter, and spring.
The primary objective of the RDS is to provide a highly competitive environment designed to develop those already at an advanced level of soccer. However, an additional goal of the RDS is to provide a platform for the truly gifted players to progress to Red Bulls Academy, the nation’s number 1 Academy system. Since its inception, seventeen players from the Long Island RDS have graduated to Red Bulls Academy, with over one hundred additional players representing the Red Bulls RDS in Showcase Tournament play.
Now entering its sixth year, try-outs for the Long Island Regional Development School are just around the corner. On-line registration opens to the public at 9:00am on Wednesday, September 2nd, and is open to the first 500 applicants.
Subject to acceptance, the RDS features 20 weeks of supplementary training, all on Tuesday evenings, at a range of central Long Island locations. Historically, the try-outs have reached capacity within the first 48 hours of registration being opened to the public. Further details on this year’s program, and information on how to register on-line, can be found at: http://www.rbnytraining.com/user-pages/public/camps/select-session.asp?CAMP_ID=2500&
Once accepted, participation in the fall 2015 to spring 2016 program will include a nominal participation fee. Long Island Junior Soccer League continues to demonstrate their commitment to the development of youth soccer players by sponsoring the vast majority of the training costs. Participants will be required to commit to two easy installments of $185 each (less than $20 per session). Still the most affordable route into the RDS on a year-round basis, the LIJSL RDS represents an opportunity not to be missed for Long Island’s most talented players.
