The New York Red Bulls set the pace for player development in Major League Soccer, as the first professional team to boast a satellite based, academy feeder system, the Regional Development School (RDS).

The RDS offers boys and girls aged 8 - 14 an opportunity to receive supplementary training from New York Red Bulls’ professional trainers. Intended solely for competitive and elite travel players, the advanced curriculum is specially designed to target individual, technical aspects of the game.

Acceptance on the RDS is strictly subject to try-out, to ensure the highest level of competition at each location. An open try out is held for each satellite location a week prior to the start date, with successful participants being invited back to join the training program on a regular basis. All RDS try outs are free of charge.

The coaching ratio of 1:12 allows players to receive excellent individual attention and coach interaction, all leading to a comprehensive electronic evaluation at the end of the program. These evaluations provide qualitative feedback that provides parents and coaches with an invaluable tool to aid their player's development, even beyond the conclusion of the course.

An exciting feature of the program is that the highest level players from within the RDS are selected to represent the New York Red Bulls in showcase tournaments across the area. Showcase tournaments offer a one off opportunity for players to represent the Red Bulls’ youngest teams in competition, and play in a truly select environment.

The select few who truly excel in the RDS, will earn the opportunity to try out for the full Academy teams, which begin at the age of U14. Here begins a player’s journey towards a career as a professional player, within one of the countries premier Academy programs.

Each RDS location now offers a goalkeeper specific curriculum, allowing high level keepers to focus on the position specific aspects of their game, such as footwork, handling, shot-stopping and distribution.
