Questions & Answers

1. What is the check-in procedure?

  • Check-in time is staggered between 1.00pm and 3.00pm on Sunday.
  • We suggest players born in 2004 and later check in between 1:00pm and 2:00pm, and players born in 2003 and earlier check in between 2:00pm and 3:00pm.
  • Check in times are staggered so we can manage the flow of arrivals, maintain as much space as possible in the parking lot, and keep corridors as clear as possible. This will also reduce lines at check in.
  • If you cannot get to your suggested check-in time, you are free to arrive any time between 1:00pm and 3:00pm.
  • Check-in is at the front of Austin Colgate dorms. There is plenty of parking at the rear of the Halls, or in the central quad.
  • Players should eat lunch prior to arrival, as the first meal will be at approximately 5.00pm.
  • Please do not arrive prior to 1.00pm as all our staff will be busy making final site preparations and no one will be available to assist you.
  • Once you have dropped off your children, you are free to depart, as soccer activities will be commencing immediately.
  • Due to the staggered arrival times of the players, parents are not expected to stay for an opening address.
  • Players should arrive on camp dressed to play, to facilitate the quick start of soccer activities.
  • If you are unable to check in between 1:00pm and 3:00pm, please call the cell numbers provided at the end of the FAQ to advise of your arrival time, on the day of check-in.

2. How do I choose a roommate?

  • Rooms at Peddie High School typically offer occupancy for only 2 players.
  • You should respond to your confirmation email requesting a first, second, and third choice room mate. Instructions for this are in the body of the email.
  • We understand the importance of getting the rooming allocation right, and we appreciate your patience and cooperation while we do our best to accommodate everyone’s needs.

3. What should players bring to camp?

  • Soccer equipment: cleats, sneakers, shin-guards, plenty of t-shirts, shorts, rain jackets.
  • As many pairs of white shorts and white socks as possible. Players will be provided with a variety of training tee-shirts, but we try to keep the shorts and socks uniform as well.
  • Goalkeepers should bring gloves and long sleeved goalkeeper shirts.
  • Casual clothing.
  • Toiletries and towels.
  • Bathing suit.
  • Floor standing fans (Peddie rooms are not air conditioned).
  • Full set of bedding for a twin bed (pillow, sheets, and comforter).
  • As a rule of thumb, players should generally be able to make one set of soccer clothing work per day. However, please be prepared for up to one full change per day, in case of inclement weather.
  • All players must bring a photocopy of their immunization records. These will be submitted to our AT on the opening day, so we comply with NJ Board of Health Regulations.

4. What are the supervision arrangements in the dorms?

  • New York Red Bull coaches are housed on each floor of every dorm.  Their rooms have signs on them should campers need them for any reason
  • In addition to our staff, each location has their own on campus security which is available 24 hours a day.

5. How can my child contact me/I contact my child throughout the week?

  • If your child has a cell phone they may use it only in their rooms.
  • If they do not have a cell phone, we will allow them to use staff phones to check in periodically.
  • An emergency phone number is provided where the children can be reached throughout the week. This can be found later on in the FAQ.

6. Are there any medical facilities on site?

  • All members of New York Red Bulls staff have a working knowledge of first aid and how to treat basic sporting injuries.
  • A qualified Athletic Trainer is also present during the week to provide on field treatment.

7. Do the dorms have air conditioning?

  • No, we recommend campers bring a fan of some type, (clip-over-the-bed, desktop or free standing).
  • Air conditioning units are not permitted, as the windows are fixed.

8. Does Peddie have a swimming pool?

  • Yes, although due to the large number of players on camp, we cannot guarantee that all groups will have swim time.
  • The pool is there only as a contingency plan, should we lose large amounts of playing time due to inclement weather.
  • If used, swim time is fully supervised by several coaches, and there are also fully qualified lifeguards on site.

9. What non-soccer activities are available throughout the week?

  • Time is allocated each day for players to spend time socializing with other campers, and to spend time engaged in other activities.
  • Team activities will be prepared throughout the week, featuring activities such as quiz nights, Red Bull viewing parties, and other team competitions.

10. What if my child has dietary requirements?

  • Every location offers a variety of meal options three times a day.
  • There are vegetarian options available at all meals.
  • We assume that all players are aware of their dietary concerns and know what they can or cannot eat.
  • While at camp, the kitchen staff is used to dealing with school groups, so if your child has any questions they may ask them.
  • Our staff is seated with the campers for all meals so they can monitor players’ eating habits.
  • Water is available at the fields for all sessions, and players are provided a water bottle in their welcome pack.
  • We urge you not to provide your child with large amounts of candy and soda for their rooms.

11. What do I do with my child’s medications?

  • All medical information, including medications to be taken at camp, have already been listed when you completed your online registration forms.
  • No further forms need to be completed, other than the provision of immunization records outlined earlier.
  • Medications may be left with the Athletic Trainer at check in.   They will personally supervise and administer medications.
  • If your child normally self-administers, they will be permitted to do so on camp.

12. Are the parents allowed to come and watch during the week?

  • The only time parents may attend to watch sessions, is the morning training session, from 9:00am - 11:30am. No visits are allowed outside these hours.
  • We no longer allow parents to attend the evening sessions, as if we have a young player who is homesick, seeing their parents in the evening (closer to bed-time) exacerbates the problem further.
  • All sessions will be held on the grass fields to the rear of the campus. We recommend using the parking lot by the athletics centre to minimize walking distances.
  • The more you allow your child to immerse themselves in the soccer environment, the more they will enjoy the experience.
  • Although we encourage our players to call home periodically, calling them several times a day is entirely counter-productive. Quite often, a text message is better. Please bear this in mind when communicating with your child.
  • For child protection reasons, when visiting, parents are not allowed to enter the dormitories. If you are bringing extra clothing / equipment for players, please meet them outside the dorms.

13. How much money should my child bring for the week?

  • Approximately $25-$30 (in small bills) for the week should be plenty.
  • Players must keep money in their rooms but are responsible for it themselves. We strongly advise not bringing more money than is necessary.
  • Please do not bring other valuable items to camp as New York Red Bulls are not responsible for the loss of any personal belongings. iPhones / iPads / other portable electronic devices are brought entirely at your own risk.

14. What time do we pick our child up on the Thursday?

  • The final day consists of a tournament. All parents are encouraged to attend the afternoon session only, to cheer the players on. Unlike earlier in the week, the morning time slot is not open to parents.
  • The camp graduation ceremony takes place at 3:30pm and lasts no longer than 30 minutes. Parental attendance at this closing ceremony is mandatory.
  • The closing ceremony will take place in the main stadium (see campus map).
  • Check out will begin at 4:00pm, upon the completion of the graduation ceremony and tournament, with all families expected to depart no later than 5:00pm.
