At the beginning of July, the Red Bulls Regional Development School hosted their inaugural Academy ID camp.

Hosted at the Red Bulls’ training facility in Whippany, New Jersey, the camp gave players aged 13 to 17 an opportunity to train and play in front of on-looking coaches and scouts from Red Bulls esteemed academy, while also receiving top-level instruction from the Red Bulls RDS staff.

Players from all across the Metropolitan area came together for the opportunity, with each day consisting of on field training sessions, classroom presentations and scrimmages.

“We are delighted to be able to offer this opportunity to these young players” said RDS Manager Gareth Tyack. “Players change so quickly when they are young, and we have seen a lot of players develop tremendously throughout their early teens. Within the RDS we’ve always had a thorough overview of the younger players in the Metropolitan area, but the addition of this program provides us with an opportunity to continue to monitor them as they get a little older.”

Simon Barrow, Senior Manager of Player Development added “We’ve always tried to keep the door open to all players in our system, and adding this vital program allows us to do this for players who previously would have aged out of our extensive player development network. We’re delighted for the players who have come back, and earned another opportunity to be considered for one of the nation’s leading academy set-ups.”

With Academy Director David Longwell and Chief Academy Scout Jeff Zaun both present, as well as several members of the academy coaching staff, the young hopefuls had ample opportunity to impress, with several members of the group grabbing the opportunity with both hands.

In total eight players were invited into Academy training sessions for an extended trial period after the camp in order to further assess their suitability for a spot on one of the Red Bulls Academy rosters.

RDS Residential Camps are still available this summer, catering for players up to the age of 16. Players aged 7 to 14 may also like to consider the fall RDS, with try-outs now open for registration. For more information, visit: http://www.redbullsacademy.com/training/rds/
