New York Red Bulls Expand Youth Platform – Expansion of RDS Regional Teams
The New York Red Bulls Regional Development Schools (RDS) will expand their Regional Team initiative with the addition of six new teams in 2017.
After a hugely successful inaugural season piloting the year-round program with the 2005 age group, the New York Red Bulls RDS will field three teams in the 2007 and 2008 age groups respectively, all of whom will complete in Eastern Development program (EDP) League.
The regionally based teams will each hold small rosters of 12 to 14 players. With one region spanning New Jersey and all points west, one encompassing Westchester, Rockland, and all points north, and a third catering for NYC, Nassau county, all points east, these new teams will provide unrivalled coverage for New York Red Bulls’ flagship player development program. In doing so, the pre-Academy feeder system ensures that elite youth players from the entire Metro area will have access to what promises to be some of the most competitive youth teams in the nation.
Each team will begin with a pre-season residential camp week, to prepare all players for a successful season with their new team-mates. Throughout the Spring and Fall, each team will participate in two local training sessions per week, in addition to one optional centralized training session at Red Bulls Training Facility in Hanover, N.J. All home games will be played at Red Bulls Training Facility.
All teams will participate in four high-level tournaments each year, and players will benefit from additional indoor winter training, summer residential camps, and supplementary Futbolinho training. As part of an MLS set-up, teams will also have the the opportunity to participate in exclusive MLS events such as the Generation Adidas Cup, Toronto FC KIA Fall Invitational, and numerous other exclusive events.
Tryouts for the 2007 and 2008 RDS Regional Teams will be held throughout March and April. Players selected to the rosters will be notified in late April, with league play commencing in September 2017.
Consistent with New York Red Bulls’ policy of developing youth talent, dual carding is permitted, provided a player’s primary commitment is to Red Bull New York.
