THREE RED BULL ACADEMY PLAYERS BROUGHT INTO U17 MNT RESIDENCY

New York Red Bulls Academy U14 members Santiago Castano (Union City, NJ), Russell Canouse (Lancaster, PA) and Adam Najem (Clifton, NJ) have all been called into the U17 Men’s National Team Residency Program at IMG Academy in Bradenton, FL. for the Spring 2010 Semester, it was announced recently by U.S. Soccer U17 head coach Wilmer Cabrera.  All three players are born in 1995, which is rare for players entering residency, as most players are born in 1994 when entering U17 residency.
“The Red Bulls Academy is proud to have Santiago, Russell and Adam invited to participate in the US Soccer U17 Residency Program,” stated Bob Montgomery, Red Bull New York Director of Youth Programs. “It is always an honor for our club to have players selected in National team camps and games. Having these players invited into Residency is a major accomplishment for any club and is a testament to the players and the job of our coaching staff.”
“All three of the players are well deserving of this invite. In the past year they have all worked hard to achieve many of their individual goals. Their dedication and maturity are key factors in their development and is major reason why they have been bought into Residency dominated by 1994s, when all three are 1995s.”
Castano is the second Red Bulls goalkeeper in the last six months to join the prestigious Residency Program, following in the footsteps of Keith Cardona (Glen Rock, NJ). Castano was last season’s Red Bulls Academy U14 Player of the Year.
Canouse is very technical player who plays as a defender/midfielder. He is very competitive and has a smart soccer brain
Najem is a midfield/forward and was last year’s Red Bulls Academy U15 Player of the Year despite playing up in age group. Again is a very technical player with great vision.
Former Red Bull Jozy Altidore also passed through the U17 Residency Program, which was established in 1999.
Current Red Bulls Academy players John Agudelo (Barnegat, NJ) and Cardona recently graduated after the U17 FIFA World Cup In Nigeria in November 2009
